Kate Day is a Legupfortalent Star who specialises in individual Eventing and Renapur will be sponsoring and supporting her for the 2015 season. Below is a little bio about Kate and we would like to wish her all the best for 2015.
"I wanted to ride from the moment I knew what a horse was and I wanted to Event from the moment I knew what it was. Growing up my heroes / heroines where Ginny Leng (Elliot), Lucinda Green, Ian Stark & Mark Todd… and I am pleased to say they still are an Inspiration...
Although mum had been a groom in Richmond 
Park as a teenager and was keen on classical riding in later life, she had never been competitive. She did however regularly take me to Reading Horse Sales and after three years of me spending every weekend at the local stables I got an ex-racing pony for Christmas when I was ten. Soon this wasn’t enough and I was riding lots of local horses and ponies for people and started competing on mum and dads hack with varying degrees of success and humiliation…
Family circumstances dictated that the horses had to go and for a few years all my dreams were shelved until I was 23 and living in Belfast I took an ex-cavalry horse on loan as the Army riding school couldn’t do anything with her. That is when I first started teaching and before long I bought my own horse and taught 2 nights a week for a BHS riding school on top of my day job as a designer, I also competed regularly at riding club level with success but when the time came for us to affiliate, sadly Nero had developed a joint issue and this was not to be. I found him an excellent home and bought a 3 year old as this was all I could afford and he put me where I am today!
Suffice to say this was a massive learning curve, during this time I qualified as a list 6 dressage judge and gave up the day job to run a hunting and eventing yard for a businessman in Co Tyrone, Monty progressed brilliantly and placed many times in pre-nov as a 5yr old… the dream was back on track! This was the springboard I needed and I went on to ride for and run some of Ireland’s top studs and producers including Scarteen and Kedrah. Sadly I broke my back in 2010 schooling P2P horses in Fethard, Tipperary. We bounced back and in 2011 (as a 7 yr. old) we placed in our first CCI* and progressed to a DC in our first intermediate and a 2nd and 4th in the subsequent outings that season.
I then decided the time had come to move back
to the UK, the following 2 years were extremely tough, unfortunately I suffered from complications from my injuries and was unable to work, I certainly couldn't afford to compete or do the consistent training required to compete at this level and it looked like I would have to sell my pride and joy who had kept me going through thick and thin, although I would have bought another 3 year old and started again my dreams were slipping away..
My life changed dramatically when I met my now husband, he totally understood my predicament, his family had been heavily involved in eventing and he helped me, I have him to thank for everything. Thankfully I had a background in design, project management and surveying so was able to go back to that and get my condition under control and get out competing again, we even made the step up to Advanced level this year... I also started “fixing” problem horses for other people and have now been fortunate enough to have been bought a fabulous 5 yr. old TB to retrain and event; it is a joy to have such lovely owners and expanded my own string with a stunning 4 year old mare.
This coming season I am hoping to establish myself at Advanced and qualify for 3* and start the youngsters careers so with the help of Renapur and Legupfortalent, have it all to look forward to in 2015!"
