We were lucky enough to have an awesome summer this year – for a change. But with the clocks having just gone back, signifying the start of winter, some of you bikers may be thinking about retiring your motorbikes and bike leathers until the sun shines again.
But before you go shoving your leathers into the back of the wardrobe, only to pull them out six months later to find them dirty, dried out, cracked and unwearable, follow these simple steps to ensure your leathers are suitably stored and ready for use – extending the life of your leathers and saving you money.
1. Air your motorbike leathers
It’s no secret your bike leathers can get a little bit whiffy after a summer full of long rides in the sunshine. Turn your leathers inside out and leave them outside to give them a good airing before you put them away in storage.
2. Clean your bike leathers
If you’re a hard-core motorcyclist then your leathers are probably covered in all sorts of muck and road grime. Before you do anything else use Renapur Leather Cleaner to remove grime, light grease and fly kill from your beloved bike leathers. Apply with a damp lathered sponge for best results.
3. Deep condition your leathers
Once your leathers have been aired and cleaned treat them with Renapur Leather Balsam. Its unique formula of natural waxes and oils, such as Beeswax and Carnauba wax, will nourish, condition and help to waterproof your bike leathers, meaning you can store them over winter safe in the knowledge that they’ll look and feel as good as new when the time comes to get them out again. Gently work the Balsam into your bike leathers with a dry sponge.
4. Store your bike leathers to keep their shape
When it comes to putting your bike leathers away we recommend using a wide padded hanger. This will help your leathers keep their shape if they’re going to be stored away for a long period of time. Also make sure that they are completely dry, this will help prevent any mould growth.
